Senior Pastor (Randal E. Pelton)

I was born and raised in Weeks Mills, Maine and received Christ at an early age at Weeks Mills Baptist Church. God stirred me to teach the Scriptures during my first year in college, through the prompting of my pastor. I transferred the following year to New Brunswick Bible Institute to begin my training for ministry. After graduating with their three-year diploma (1983), I enrolled at Washington Bible College to earn a bachelors degree (1984) so I could attend Dallas Theological Seminary (Master of Theology, 1989).

During my Dallas days, I served as a Bible teacher in the Inner City Bible Ministry that met in Roseland Homes. That is how I met my beautiful wife, Michele Miller, who was also serving in that ministry. Any young woman who would serve the Lord like that was serious about Him and His work. She is the most Spirit-sensitive person I know and God’s best gift to me. Michele and I were married in 1987 in Charlotte, NC.

After graduating from DTS, Michele and I moved to Lanham, MD where I spent two years in administration, teaching and coaching at WBC. God graciously allowed Michele and me to be shepherded and trained by Dr. Jeff Watson at Grace Bible Church in Lanham, MD. I was ordained under the authority of GBC and soon felt convinced that my mentor, Dr. John Reed, was right that I should enter pastoral ministry. Because I taught preaching classes at WBC, I began to sense a passion for helping train other expository preachers.

In August of 1991 Michele and I and our 9-month old daughter, Moriah, moved to Somerville, New Brunswick, Canada to begin pastoring The People’s Church with my former teacher, coach, and mentor, Rev. Bob McNutt. During those years God blessed Michele and me with two more children: Michael and Amanda. Those years created an increased passion for teaching the Bible and helping others to do so. I obtained additional training in Dr. Haddon Robinson’s first Doctor of Ministry class in Preaching at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and graduated in 1996.

After twelve years with the dear folks at The People’s Church, Michele and I accepted the Senior Pastor position at Calvary Bible Church in Mount Joy, PA. Our family arrived during Thanksgiving week of 2003. We cannot say enough good things about this faith-family. Everyone has made us feel at home here. The Elders knew up front that my goals were to continue pastoring, teaching, studying, and training pastors as God gives opportunities. For years I enjoyed riding the train to take Ph.D. classes in Hermeneutics and Bible Interpretation at Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia. I continue to enjoy teaching Advanced Homiletics to graduate students at Lancaster Bible College and Doctor of Ministry students at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in South Hamilton, MA. Michele and I enjoy attending the annual meetings of the Evangelical Homiletics Society each year in October.

On the personal side, Michele and I work out at Spooky Nook Sports.  In March of 2013, after playing the tenor saxophone for about ten years, I began taking cello lessons. I enjoy riding my motorcycle with guys at church, especially our annual fall ride. I enjoy tying and wearing bow ties. If you’re into bow ties, check out the handmade ones from

Associate Pastor of Family Ministries & Christian Education (Richard J. Hurlbert)
Our Associate Pastor is Mr. Richard J. Hurlbert. Pastor Rich is married to Terri and they have two daughters, Taylor Paige and Whitney Morgan. Pastor Rich has been a member of Calvary Bible Church for thirty years and has been on staff since 2003. After having taught Bible in two Christian schools for over fifteen years, he felt the Lord leading him into a new area of ministry. The Lord opened the door for him to minister in his own home church as Associate Pastor. Pastor Rich earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Bible (specializing in Christian Education) from Lancaster Bible College in 1982. Pastor Rich enjoys antiques, spending time with his grandchildren and family, golf, and the mountains.

Associate Pastor of Student Ministries & Evangelism (Jonathan S. Kauffman)
My passion for ministry began in high school while counseling at Circle K Camp. Watching the Lord work in the lives of teenagers is one of my life's greatest thrills. So I took the opportunity to attend Word of Life Bible Institute in 2003, and finished my Bachelors degree in 2006 at Lancaster Bible College, all the while taking every opportunity to work with teens whether at camps, retreats, or in CBC's student ministry.

In God's provident plan, Calvary was looking to bring on a staff member at the same time I was graduating from college and I couldn't have been more thrilled when I was able to land here on a more permanent basis in 2006. 4 ½ years later in 2011 my position became full-time with the additional responsibilities of helping to guide and direct both the evangelistic efforts and ministry to the young adults of the church.

Other than my love for Jesus and his church, my greatest joy is being married to my wonderful wife Rebekah. Together we enjoy working around the house and dream of growing old and spitting watermelon seeds at our grandkids! We’ve been blessed with 4 great kids who make everything in our life all the sweeter. Personally, my favorite times are getting on the floor and wrestling or playing with our kids. And if I’ve got any free time beyond that I enjoy playing slow-pitch softball, any outdoor recreation, and “trying” to fix things around the house!
